Federico S., now F&B Assistant at Hilton Hotel
Federico S., student of the International Master in Tourism and Hospitality Management, explains his path, all the skills acquired and all the opportunities of networking and professional development he has made use of, bringing him to his dream job.
Tell about yourself, what your pre, during, and post master’s degree journey has brought you to where you are today.
I graduated from hotellerie school back in 2012, after which I started my journey abroad; first in London for five years and then in France for another two, working for some of the best brands in the luxury hospitality field, such as, Corinthia, Mandarin Oriental, Dorchester’s, Claridge’s and SBM MONACO, consolidating my experience as a chef.
When I returned to Rome in 2022 I decided to improve my managerial skills by choosing enrolling in the Food & Beverage Master at Rome Business School, which gave me the opportunity to get a stage as an F&B Manager at Hilton where I work currently.
What are the most important skills you acquired at RBS, which ones you will need to work on the most and which ones to focus on that are essential in the world of work today.
At RBS I’ve found a vast range of notions and knowledge made available by the professionals teaching the courses. I found myself capable of acquiring new competences and having the chance to work on the analytical side of the industry, discovering a whole range of tools, such as, sales strategy, marketing, culinary management, HR management and accounting skills which are fundamental to people like me who want to play important roles in today’s F&B industry.
Why did you decide to join RBS, what did the master’s program give you in terms of skills, competencies, meetings with companies and experiences?
I discovered RBS when I started looking for Masters Degrees to acquire and improve my skillset. It offered the best price-quality ratio, giving students the chance to follow lessons remotely, allowing us to continue working whilst studying. Last, but not least, It gave me a chance to return to an international environment. That day I decided that RBS was the best choice for me and the best was yet to come.
Once the courses started, I realized that there was much more then what I was expecting: professionals always available to answers my questions at anytime, company meetings giving us exclusive insights to really capture their core values, masterclasses in every field, from personal branding to managerial skills, strategical approaches and marketing tools, human behaviour and resources management; the list may get really long.
What do you want to focus on in your work experience today, and what is your career goal?
After the Master, my path has completely changed. Now I’m focusing on the bigger picture, outside of the kitchen, improving my managerial skills in all the other possible departments of a hotel such as: restaurant service, bar, banqueting and room dining, hoping to become a well-rounded F&B Director, one day.
